These last few days have been a whirlwind. I went to bed Thursday night with the U.S. one way, and I wake up to find out the Supreme Court has allowed gay marriage in all 50 states. To say I was excited is an understatement, as you can see from my Twitter sidebar, where I posted a couple of things on the topic.
For me, same-sex marriage is a subject I will fight for. I have a friend and former classmate who is the greatest dude on the earth who came out several years ago, and it has been an uphill but inspiring climb for him. Plus, I suddenly had a burst of inspiration two years ago when I took my Intro to Creative Writing class, and that began the whole Aidan and Matt journey (and if you haven’t yet, please check out those stories). I wrote my final paper for my Social Psychology class on prejudice towards the LGBT community (and I sadly handed in the paper the day BEFORE the Supreme Court ruling–I could kick myself), so the subject of equality for all is something I strongly believe in.
I have many family members who use religion as their whipping boy to make a case against equality, and for those reasons, I do not associate with them. You are entitled to your opinion, but I prefer to not hear it because I will lose my temper. Plus, I am almost 32-years old–I don’t need negativity in my life, I have enough.
I took some images since Friday of the Pride flag from websites, which I will share here.
